CMB’s Felipe Peña to be Nominated for Advocacy Award

Museum director to receive recognition for outstanding contributions in the field of child advocacy

It is with great enthusiasm that the Children’s Museum of Brownsville would like to announce that Felipe Peña, our very own Executive Director, has been formally nominated as an Outstanding Child Advocate as part of Accolades: The Academy Awards of Child Advocacy.

Organized by Children at Risk, a Texas-based nonprofit research and advocacy organization, the event will honor several nominees across the state for their significant contributions in the area of child advocacy. The awards are split into both statewide and regional categories, the latter of which sees Felipe as one of three nominees in the Rio Grande Valley region. Other distinguished nominees from the area include Maria I. Campos, Regional Director for AVANCE’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs, and Dr. Rodney Rodriguez, Senior Director of the RGV FOCUS group.

“I am honored to have been nominated for this distinguished award,” stated Peña. “We strive to serve the children and families of the RGV every day, and it fills our hearts to see their smiling faces in the museum taking advantage of the educational activities and programming that we provide. Our goal and belief is that every child should have the right and should be given the opportunity to learn through the power of play.”

The Children’s Museum of Brownsville is a non-profit organization that relies on patronage and donations to continue providing children and families with the best in educational exhibits, activities, and events. If you’d like to support the museum directly, you can make a donation to our Children Under the Sun Annual Fund.
